explorer scouts

Our Explorer Unit meets on Monday evenings from 19:00 to 21:00

Explorer Scouts are young people, usually aged between 13.5 and 18 years old. They make up the fourth section of the Scouting family after Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

A group of Explorer Scouts is called a Unit.

Not all Units meet every week, partly due to activities, holidays, exams and the other commitments that crop up in a teenager’s life, and also because Explorers tend to get out and about at weekends more often than other sections.

Explorer Scouts often get the chance to work with other Explorer Scouts in their District, not just their own Unit, so can take part in an even wider spectrum of activities.

There is also a range of ambitious badges and awards, through which Explorers can demonstrate their proficiency and expand their interests.

Scouting and Employability

Young people can gain a variety of skills and experiences through Scouting and this can be recognised by employers, HE colleagues and universities.

UCAS have referenced the Young Leader's Scheme, Queen's Scouts Award, Explorer Belt, Scouts of the World Award and adult Woodbadge as part of their list of Education Information Profiles

Young Leader Scheme

The Young Leaders' Scheme helps Explorer Scouts to develop and grow as individuals. It allows them to make a valuable contribution to their community and give service to others. The scheme also helps them fulfill the service elements of their awards.

Explorer Belt

The Explorer Belt is a challenge of a lifetime. It is a chance to take part in a ten day expedition that brings you a real understanding of a different country, its culture and way of life. You will develop this understanding by travelling through your chosen country, working as part of a small team to complete a series of projects and most importantly by meeting local people.
