Tataki-Zome

Tataki-Zomé たたき染め from Japanese tataki, hammering, and zomé, dying, is a way of printing leaves and flowers onto fabric or paper that is traditional in Japan. Instead of using paint or dye, the colours of the plant are used.

The leadership team thought this would be a lovely, calming activity to offer the Scouts & Explorers. We were wrong! The noise of the youth members hammering was intense. We were so glad we completed the activity outside. At one stage everyone was hammering at exactly the same time and singing "We Will Rock You" by Queen.

It was a really good evening and there were some really good prints produced - however I think the instructions for the activity needed to add - Pain killers for the leaders heads...
